Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough—or you’re beyond relaxed already—you won’t feel much.
After a few minutes, the tingling sensation fades into a deep, relaxing warmth. The redness is purely a circulation boost. You might even fall asleep.

Decided to jump straight into a 12 min session on an advanced mat. It was rough at first, but the bliss experienced afterwards made it 100% worth the purchase. Almost immediate relief from the muscle pains and tightness collected through years of manual labour. I'd recommend anyone thinking of purchasing to stick it out if it's too sore at first, you'll get used to it and wish you bought one sooner!

After a friend of mine visited and used my shakti mat, they got so obsessed with it that I decided it would be the perfect gift to share. The mat is surprisingly effective for relaxation and tension relief. At first, the spikes feel intense, but after a few minutes, a warm, tingly sensation sets in and helps melt away muscle tightness. I use it for 15–20 minutes before bed, and it helps ease me into sleep. It’s especially great after long hours at a desk. Definitely a unique but worthwhile investment for stress and body care.

The Shakti Pillow is the perfect complement to the mat. It helps release tension in areas where I tend to carry the most stress. It can feel a bit sharp initially but becomes very soothing once your body adjusts. I love using it during meditation or after a long day. I bought this pillow in conjunction with a shakti mat - I tend to hold my anxiety and tension in my shoulders and neck, and I wanted to make sure I could target those areas. This pillow is really helpful both on its own and with a mat. I like that you can rotate it to focus on certain spots or use it on top of the mat to really get into the muscles in the neck. I'm glad I bought this alongside the mat itself.
