When you place it under your head, neck and shoulders, it disperses pressure avoiding any pinch points. Your shoulders and neck experience a deep release that transitions up toward the top of your skull.

Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. Nice addition
Nice addition to the mat, although I'm not sure if it's as helpful as I'd hope it to be so far, but perhaps over time will find better ways to put it to use. The way it's shaped perhaps doesn't lend to helping with all of the areas of my neck that are in pain. But, overall I'm still glad I have it.

Couldn't live without it
I get bad tension in my neck and shoulders when I am stressed. Nothing relieves this pressure like Shakti! I used to get frequent massages with little to no relief. Life changed since I purchased my Shakti! I use it multiple days a week- never looking back!! Thanks team

New routine
This was for sure an adjustment period purchase.
I was only able to start using the shakti pillow and mat with a light shirt and shorts. I could only stay on for 5 minutes in the beginning. Now I am sure I could fall asleep on it. The way the initial feeling hits is to be desired, but once we become accustomed to it, it becomes simple. The benefits include a calmer approach to life and a sense of pride. I highly recommend these products!
