Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough—or you’re beyond relaxed already—you won’t feel much.
After a few minutes, the tingling sensation fades into a deep, relaxing warmth. The redness is purely a circulation boost. You might even fall asleep.

I suffer with insomnia and over the years I've tried so many things with no luck. I was sceptical but this mat has really won me over.
I can't describe the 'high' I felt the first time I used the mat. I use it every evening with the app before bed and I fall to sleep very easily.
My only regret is not going for level 2 as I need a new challenge after only a few weeks.

I was a bit skeptical about the potential benefits of this product. My current usage starts in the early morning as the first thing I do every day. If you think coffee wakes you up, the shakti mat truly gets the blood flowing. I supplement my use with a nightly session that gets me relaxed and tingly just before bed. I have found that direct skin contact, while somewhat painful, turns into real bliss after a few seconds of shock!
