Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. If those spikes aren’t sharp enough—or you’re beyond relaxed already—you won’t feel much.
After a few minutes, the tingling sensation fades into a deep, relaxing warmth. The redness is purely a circulation boost. You might even fall asleep.

Bought the Shakti Mat after debating on it for years. Decided to go for level 2 so I wouldn't grow out of it. The first time I laid on it I thought 'I've made a terrible mistake.' Now, it feels so relaxing. I blink and suddenly I've been on it for half an hour. It's a great way to bring yourself back into the room if you struggle with anxiety. It's grounding for sure. You might even feel sleepy on it after a while which is mad but it's true!

Hi there
I was with some friends the other day I they mentioned the above. I was intrigued to say the least.
So I bought one along with a pillow.
My first attempt for five mins a little discomfort but not painful.
My second attempt I put some music on and set a timer for 20 minutes and then I woke up.
Absolutely amazing and that is what I do non a regular basis.

I find myself anxious when it’s time to get on the mat knowing g the pain that’s coming
It’s self torture initially but yes the ahhhh moment comes and 8 times out of 10 I fall asleep so it must be working right?
My sleep at night is better also
So all round going great
Just that initial 6-7 minutes is still hard
