Do Shakti Mats actually work?

  • 2 min read

When the people that started Shakti Mats showed up at my house with a spikey mat, like most, I was completely sceptical. But because they were my friends, I had the extra nudge to give it a go. And… I hated it. But then... I loved it (after about 2 weeks). If you're wondering if the Shakti Acupressure Mat really works, here's my experience.

Why did I hate it?

Because it hurt. Quite a lot. I thought it was craziness. But my friends were adament so I kept trying. And then I had my breakthrough. After 2 weeks of sticking to my weird new habit, I woke up on my Shakti Mat, with dried dribble on my cheek. I had been completely passed out and my mind was blown. I must have been in a deep sleep for about 45 minutes. And that’s when my mind changed. After that experience, it was so much easier to push through the discomfort of lying on my Shakti Mat. Because I knew what was on the other side. I started using it every night before bed.

At first the main acupressure benefits I found were...

Helping me fall asleep. But then I started using it at the end of the day when I was feeling stressed or overwhelmed. I’d have a hot bath and then lie on my Shakti Mat in bed. And it would completely reset me. The sensation of the spikes would interrupt my thought pattern. Lying on the spikes would make my mind quiet and I could somehow let go of the days baggage.

I’ve been using my Shakti Mat for 5 years now...

Sometimes for sleep, sometimes for stress. Often for muscle release after boxing. I’m an active, go-getter person and reading and The Shakti Mat are my most used tools for downtime during the day.

Basically, I love my Shakti Mat and now I understand how it actually works.

Falling asleep on my mat = body responding to pain with endorphin release resulting in relaxation.

Mental reset after a stressful day = the discomfort caused by the spikes forces my attention, turning my focus inwards and making me feel present.

Muscle release = the pressure applied to the muscles increases circulation and releases tension.

So, do Shakti Acupressure Mats really work? Well... Now I work at Shakti Mats because I’m a true believer (this is me). It’s so simple it’s crazy and I would encourage anyone to at least give it a go. The worst that could happen is you hate it and you send it back. At least you will have a new experience under your belt!
